We just spent 3 nights at the Guemes Island Resort and it was wonderful. Brown Lantern (35 minute drive/ferry) - Enjoy dinner at this laid-back tavern, offering a retro vibe with an extensive beer list and delicious pub grub. The grasslands trail follows along the side of the wetlands area that is very easy and flat.

Private & surrounded by mature trees, this park-like setting waterfront acreage is a rare find. To the waterway north of the island, part of Bellingham Bay, Wilkes gave the name "Penguin Harbor", for the British vessel Penguin, captured by Lawrence. We stayed in the new cabins — which had the high-design eco flair, complete with private hot tub and steam shower. We paid $275/ night and the place was moldy, cramped, and cold. The sunrise/sunsets were amazing! First established in 1947, we are a small, family run business with a casual, down to earth atmosphere. Completely redone from the ground up in 2015 w/ an open concept floor plan combining dining space w/ a light and bright living room & gourmet kitchen w/ butler's pantry.
The Yurts are a great alternative to the wonderful beachfront cabins, in which we have stayed on previous occasions.
