Often I'll run Dota 2 and HoN, Queue for both and play whichever pops first. Now with less new Heroes coming out and responding to the rage from the community over imbalance, HoN has settled into having only vanity items as purchasable: Skins, Couriers, Taunts, Announcers etc. Officially supported&sponsored by Frostburn Studios!
If you get banned, it's easy enough to start fresh and play without hindrance. I remember playing the free beta and then there was a one time fee of $30 or something when it started. They switched to a "All Heroes are Available for everyone" system except for the newest 2 heroes. Awww ok.
Awww man I loved anyone that played nymph! The game idea was derived from the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne custom map Defense of the Ancients and was S2 Games' first MOBA title. Looks like you're using new Reddit on an old browser. And then Dota 2 went open beta and killed it completely.
To elaborate, HoN was, at release, basically a better DotA, and a large number of people didn't want the dumbed down experience that LoL provided. When Dota 2 invites starting filtering out, HoN's population decreased to the point where the game basically died. It is very strange that so far this problem has not been solved. But I'm pretty sure you can still play HON.
A new hero would be available every 2 weeks and you would have to pay for "Early Access" to be able to play them in those first 4 weeks. I used to think that fixing this problem would be a priority for developers because of the inconvenience it causes, but apparently not... Oh i see, thx guys, hope they fix it soon. If you want easy gg's where you don't have to worry about denies and tp's; LoL is the game for you, if you want something close to HoN and requires skill; DotA is the game for you, Honestly that's what I loved about HON is the Tp's and denies because you had to focus so much on that while also avoiding ganks. The whole Knockout set (which Velocity is) can't be bought since it infringes trademark material from One Punch Man. I've heard the community in HON has gotten progressively more and more rotten, is it the same with Dota2? I had a lot od those 2x exp after match and a few 10xexp, now i cant find them :(, It's been bugged for months now, imo it either gets fixed the next patch or we can forget about it for good.
I used to play the game religiously in the beta stage and then for the first 6 months of paid until my PC had a meltdown and haven't played since.
