Very watchable crime drama from Channel 4.
The first episode was unflinching, atmospheric and shocking in places, with a conflicted central character and surprising turns. It's Raymond Chandler in Baghdad.
Up until that point the plot was OK, if a little pedestrian and predictable, but the last ten or fifteen minutes ruin it as a drama.
Executive producer Kate Harwood told press in London, including Express.co.uk the story behind adapting the original book. Great show, high production values and a great watch.
Complicated personal life. FAQ In short, it’s... Baghdad Central is a noir debut novel set in Baghdad in September 2003. Characters are interesting and keep me engaged.
I need to engaged and this does the trick for me, right from the start. Elliott Colla is author of We Are All Things (with Ganzeer), Baghdad Central, and Conflicted Antiquities. Baghdad Central is a noir debut novel set in Baghdad in September 2003.
It's rich in description but equally rich in poetry because the rhythms and patterns of poetry is at the heart of al-Kha. is brilliantly played by Clara Khoury and Leem Lubany as Sawsan is a revelation. Aren’t they?” “But a file doesn’t mean much on its own. The narrator is a flawed man - a father, brother and brother-in-law, uncle, widower, policeman, and a potential collaborator with the occupation authorities. The plot is intense, acting is really top notch and I really liked the soundtracks..
It's a riveting read and the treacherous twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat, while provid. I like the way there's lots of use of real native language in conversations where there should be. Plot.
“I had done obviously a lot of reading about it during the lead-up and the follow up about the invasion but it was good to go back and look at that and just to remind myself that politics didn’t just start being awful in the last couple of years.

Seductive dame who may be dodgy.
It is all of these things.
Bertie Carvel almost steals the show as the slimey Frank Temple and Carey Stoll is very good as the basically decent Captain Parodi.
January 27th 2014 He uncovers corruption amongst both locals and westerners which puts him in real danger; this doesn't dissuade him from investigating though.
Very few criticisms really. A very interesting book about an Iraqi police detective pulled into service by the Americans in what turns out to be the search for Saddam Hussein by the American military.

I loved this book! Just finished the last episode... And really this is one of the best series I've seen in a while..
Awards An American contractor is found dead in a 'safe house' and our protagonist is to investigate. I'd give it six stars if I could. What an incredible choice (as portrayed in the Movie from before your time Sophie's Choice).
How many episodes?
It's unusual to read an Iraq war book written (with detailed knowledge, I'd add) from the POV of an Iraqi. Ray Donovan season 8:Why was Ray Donovan cancelled?
Colla manages to touch on an extraordinary range of topics relevant to modern Iraq - authoritarianism; counterinsurgency; corruption; bureaucratic contracting; security theater; the very real danger involved in collaborating with an occupying force; trafficking; the decay of infrastructure; the inability of the US to understand the dangers faced by Iraqi citizens; gendered violence; the terror. A good surprise.
Do hope there's a second series. Also too much of the rather. I started watching this series just mildly interested, but I was caught more and more in the plot, even when there is an unevenness in the casting and production.I found the ending not quite believable. Cleverly maps the detective/ noir genre on to post-US invasion Iraq. He ends up working for the Americans to help recreate a civilian police force.
It's a riveting read and the treacherous twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat, while providing a too-rare glimpse into a society that readers outside the Middle East would be enriched by understanding better. The CPA has disbanded the Iraqi army and police as a consequence of its paranoid policy of de-Ba'athification of Iraqi society. But it's let down by two major failings.
I found the acting to have been very exciting and the story extremely intriguing .
The best part of the film showed Iraqis wishing they had done something to resist Sadaam' regime before the liberation was necessary.
